Family Therapy
Families come in every shape, colour, and size - and every single family comes with its own unique set of circumstances and challenges .From to day-to-day survival, navigating parenting, ageing parents, 'fun inlaws', or just trying to hold it all together through a separation or divorce - you and your family do not have to navigate it alone.
We work closely with family law practitioners to help families going through separation navigate some of the emotional landmines that often accompany changes to the family unit.
We have worked with families having amicable separations, couples at complete war with each other, separated parents struggling to effectively co-parent, and teens and pre-teens struggling with changes to the family dynamic.
We are here for emotional support and to offer you a non-judgemental ear to 'vent it all out to' -and there is a lot of value in simply being 'heard' - but where we see the most transformative shifts, is when families come to us looking to improve their communication, resilience, crisis and conflict management, and co-parenting skills.
Does this sound like you...?
"My ex is a complete nightmare. They make even the simplest things a fight, and every changeover with the kids becomes an argument."
"The kids' other parent is bribing them with gifts and trips and has no rules, and the kids are just wound up and out of control when they come home."
"My ex has a new partner ... now what?"
"We can't agree on anything. Our parenting styles are totally different".
"The other parent is telling the kids things about our divorce and poisoning their minds with lies about me."
"My inlaws are driving me crazy - my partner won't stand up for me, and this is causing a lot of problems in our marriage."
"Since we sepparated, the kids are acting out. Problems at school, attitude, and I cant get their other parent on the same page and I am worried the kids are going to end up in trouble".
"I have a new partner - and the kids hate it, and they hate spending time at home now. I feel torn between trying to have a new relationship, and doing what is best for my kids".
"I thought arguments with my ex would end when we sepparated, but now we argue about every little thing about the kids, and they know exactly how to push my buttons to start an argument."
"My ex and I are pretty amicable, we get along fine, we can communicate about practical things without arguments, but the kids are having a hard time adjusting."
"My new partner and their kids are moving in - and the blended family situation is coming with a lot of stress - no one is really happy right now..."
No one has a road map or a handbook on how to navigate their particular circumstances when the family unit changes - and while there are a million excellent resources and books out there, nothing quite replaces sitting in a room, discussing your exact circumstances, and receiving practical insight tailored to assist you in your unique situation.
We will custom tailor our process based on what we learn from you in your first session and can adapt and modify the plan as we go. Family sessions can include one-on-one sessions with individuals, sessions between a parent and one child, sessions between a parent and all of the children, sessions with the sepparated parents, sessions with sepparated parents and their children, sessions with blended families, and sessions with your extended relatives such as your parents or inlaws.
The tools and insights we will work with you to develop are tried and tested, but the timing of the learning, who is involved in the sessions, and the pace of progress, is unique to not only every family, but every individual within it.
At the best of times - raising a family and navigating life is a challenge - so give yourself a little grace - no one gets life perfect - but you can get some help and hopefully, that makes the tough stuff a little easier to manage.
